Gramacy and colleagues at the Virginia Tech Center for Ecosystem Forecasting. The position focuses on advancing research in Uncertainty Quantification, dynamic and stochastic modeling, and data-centric inference in physical and engineering sciences.
Designation: Postdoctoral Associate
Research Area: Uncertainty Quantification, Dynamic and Stochastic Modeling, Data-Centric Inference in Physical and Engineering Sciences, Surrogate Modeling of Computer Simulation Experiments.
Location: Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. in statistics, machine learning, or a related field.
- PhD awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
- Experience publishing peer-reviewed journal articles in statistics or machine learning.
- Proficiency in the R programming language.
- Experience in collaborative coding projects and version-control tools (e.g., Git).
- Interest in working in interdisciplinary, collaborative teams.
Job Description: The postdoctoral associate will lead publications on surrogate modeling of high-powered computer models for natural and biological systems. Research activities include upgrading the surrogate modeling toolkit, handling massive stochastic simulation campaigns, addressing input-dependent noise, non-stationary dynamics, and synthesizing simulation and field observations. The role involves collaboration with team members developing simulation models, managing sensors, recording field data, and contributing to a real-time monitoring/forecasting platform for resource management.
