Postdoctoral Associate in Chemistry: Stony Brook University’s Chemistry department is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. Karena Chapman’s research team. The successful candidate will conduct research in the field of X-ray crystallography, focusing on the characterization of functional metal-organic framework materials for energy-related applications such as CO2 capture and catalysis.

Postdoctoral Associate in Chemistry – X-ray Crystallography

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering by July 31, 2024.
  • Experience in crystallography.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in quantitative structure analysis based on X-ray (or neutron) scattering data.
  • Experience in powder diffraction, pair distribution function (PDF), and single-crystal analysis.
  • Familiarity with in situ/operando characterization techniques and large user facilities such as synchrotrons.
  • Experience in characterization and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) or other crystalline porous solids.

Job Description: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist Dr. Karena Chapman in conducting research to understand the structure-function relationships in metal-organic framework materials for energy-relevant applications. Duties include conducting experiments, performing X-ray scattering analysis, participating in manuscript writing, lab maintenance, and mentoring students.
