Job Summary & Research Focus
The Haber Lab and the Klarman Cell Observatory leverage interdisciplinary approaches combining genomics, data science, and immunology to understand how human airways defend against inhaled threats like allergens, toxins, and viruses. The research focuses on uncovering ‘sentinel cells’ in the lung and identifying aberrant cellular communication pathways to discover novel therapeutic targets.
Job Description & Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Join, propose, and lead research projects utilizing computational and systems biology approaches to analyze high-dimensional next-generation sequencing (NGS) data from human lung samples and mouse models of airway injury, inflammation, and regeneration.
- Method Development: Design and implement novel statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to map complex communication pathways between airway tissue and the immune system.
- Collaborative Research: Work in close partnership with experimental computational scientists, immunologists, pulmonologists, and clinical allergists across Harvard-affiliated hospitals and the Broad Institute.
- Mentorship & Development: Actively engage in regular mentoring with Dr. Haber and faculty across Broad Institute, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), and Harvard University’s Environmental Health and Biostatistics Departments.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Computational Biology, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Candidates holding a Ph.D. in Biological or Medical Sciences with demonstrated expertise in computational/statistical data analysis are also encouraged to apply.
- Proven track record of scientific productivity supported by a strong publication record.
- Excellent problem-solving, quantitative analysis, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience developing algorithms and running statistical analyses on large-scale genomic datasets (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq, bulk transcriptomics).
- Familiarity with lung biology, mucosal immunology, allergic disease mechanisms, or environmental health impacts.
