Postdoctoral Associate in Plant Metabolism: Join the Allen USDA lab at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, MO, USA, as a Postdoctoral Associate. This position focuses on developing new approaches for rapid screening of soybean lines using isotopic tracers and mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolite analysis. The incumbent will investigate altered metabolism to enhance plant growth and productivity.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in biochemistry, plant biology, agricultural, bio or chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, or closely aligned fields
  • Strong interest in metabolism and biochemistry
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong background in mass spectrometry with knowledge of untargeted metabolomics and isotopes preferred
  • Independent problem-solving skills

Job Description:

  • Conduct experiments using metabolomics and isotopic labeling to assess photosynthetic carbon assimilation and cellular metabolism
  • Utilize liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry for evaluating central metabolism and carbon partitioning
  • Develop novel methods for profiling metabolic differences using isotopic tracers
  • Generate testable hypotheses with appropriate controls for guiding scientific research
  • Maintain accurate records of research findings and analysis
  • Prepare reports, communicate findings, and contribute to manuscript preparation
  • Mentor others and collaborate within a multidisciplinary research environment
  • Present research at professional meetings
  • Fulfill other assigned duties as required
