Research Area:
The Department of Veterinary Medicine at UMD boasts numerous accomplished scientists in human and veterinary microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases. The lab of Dr. Meiqing Shi, Professor, focuses on host-pathogen interactions, particularly fungal immunology and pathogenesis. Research utilizes animal models, molecular and cellular biology techniques, and intravital imaging to investigate how Cryptococcus neoformans interacts with the host immune system, causes inflammation and disease, and how immune cells combat the fungus.

Minimum QualificationPh.D. degree
BackgroundStrong background in research in Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fields.
Preferred QualificationsHighly motivated and creative scientists with a good publication record and strong interest in fungal immunology.
Hands-on experience with animal models for pathogenesis and host immune responses.
Proficiency in advanced immunological methods (e.g., multi-parameter flow cytometry).
Expertise in the biological interpretation of multi-omics datasets (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq).
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Three Postdoctoral Associate positions are available. The Department of Veterinary Medicine provides an excellent research environment and advanced facilities, including BSL3/ABSL3 suites, to support cutting-edge infectious diseases research.
