POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE: University of Maryland: The Nutrient Management and Water Quality group at the University of Maryland’s Department of Environmental Science and Technology is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to focus on soil nitrogen biogeochemistry. The position involves optimizing nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and developing a new nitrogen recommendation system for corn. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
Summary Table:
- Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate
- Research Area: Soil Nitrogen Biogeochemistry
- Location: University of Maryland, College Park
- Eligibility/Qualification: Ph.D. in soil biogeochemistry, plant science, agronomy, soil fertility, or a related field. Experience in row crops, particularly corn, is preferred. Must have completed a Ph.D. within the last 5 years and possess a valid US driver’s license.
Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field research to understand the fate of nitrogen in soils, using wet chemistry approaches, labeled and stable isotopes of nitrogen, and other advanced techniques. The research will focus on the interaction of external nitrogen inputs (fertilizers, manure, crop residues) with soil nitrogen pools and their contribution to the soil-plant continuum in row crop production. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also work on developing a new approach to nitrogen recommendations in Maryland that balances productivity and environmental sustainability goals. Collaboration with farmers, non-profits, and state agency personnel is expected, and the candidate will be a resource and leader for soil nitrogen management research within the group.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their application via the provided Google Form at this link: Google Form. The application requires filling out personal details such as name, email, and phone number, as well as attaching two PDF files. The first file should include a cover letter addressing the required and preferred qualifications, a curriculum vitae (CV), and a list of three references.
