Postdoctoral Fellow and PhD Fellow: The Centre for Security, Diplomacy, and Strategy (CSDS) at the Brussels School of Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow and a PhD Fellow to contribute to the European Research Council (ERC) project ‘Sino American Competition and European Strategic Autonomy’ (SINATRA), led by Prof. Luis Simón. These positions will focus on examining United States-China great power competition and its implications for Europe, with a particular emphasis on economic statecraft, trade, investment, infrastructure, and European strategic autonomy.

Eligibility/Qualification:
Postdoctoral Fellowship:
- PhD in international relations, political science, or economics
- Fluent in English (proficiency in Dutch and/or other EU languages is an asset)
- Thorough knowledge of international affairs, public policy, or European studies
- Experience in computational social science/quantitative analysis preferred
- Expertise in economic statecraft, Sino-American economic competition, geoeconomics, or China’s strategy and economic influence in Europe is desirable
PhD Fellowship:
- Master’s degree in international relations, social sciences, or law
- Fluent in English (proficiency in Dutch and/or other EU languages is an asset)
- Thorough knowledge of international affairs, public policy, or European studies
- Experience in computational social science/quantitative analysis preferred
- Expertise in economic statecraft, Sino-American economic competition, geoeconomics, or China’s strategy and economic influence in Europe is desirable
Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Fellow and PhD Fellow will conduct research within the framework of the SINATRA project, focusing on various aspects of United States-China competition and its impact on European strategic autonomy. Responsibilities include contributing to the project’s empirical analysis, conducting qualitative and quantitative research, publishing research papers, and participating in project-related activities.
