Postdoctoral Fellow at Altindis Lab: The Altindis Lab at Boston College Biology Department is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow for a translational research project studying the role of viral insulins on insulin/IGF-1 signaling system, growth and cancer progression.

Location: Boston College Biology Department, Boston, USA

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Recently awarded Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Metabolism, Physiology or related field
  • Experience with basic molecular biology methods, mouse work, cancer cell lines, AAV-8 vectors, and protein production
  • Demonstrated scientific excellence with a publication track record
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to perform creative and independent research
  • Being a lab citizen with good interpersonal skills
  • Experience with high-throughput genomics is a plus

Job Description:

Inhibiting IGF-1 Receptor Signaling via Viral Insulins to Stop IGF-1 Mediated Growth and Cancer Progression

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Altindis on hypothesis development and experimental design. The candidate will perform bench work using various molecular biology techniques, collaborate with other lab members, and participate in data processing, discussion, analysis, and reporting. The candidate will also help in managing the lab, mentor junior lab members, apply for independent funding opportunities, and contribute to the lab’s culture.

Duties:

  • Works under the supervision of Dr. Altindis
  • Performs bench work using molecular biology techniques
  • Breeds and keeps mouse colonies
  • Runs xenograft experiments
  • Collaborates with lab members
  • Participates in data processing, discussion, analysis, and reporting
  • Helps in managing the lab
  • Mentors junior lab members
  • Applies for independent funding opportunities
  • Publishes research results
  • Contributes to the lab’s culture

The Environment and the resources: The Altindis lab is based at the BC Biology Department with state-of-the-art support facilities including core laboratories for sequencing, FACS analysis, imaging and animal facilities. The lab is composed of biochemists, virologists, metabolism/insulin researchers, and a computational biologist with established national and international collaborations. The appointee will have close collaborations at Joslin Diabetes Center and the opportunity to collaborate with top insulin action and metabolism scientists in the world.

Salary: Based on the NIH scale.
