Postdoctoral Fellow at Ghent University: Ghent University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the inter-university VLIR-IBOF project titled ‘MINDFUL: MIcroglia directed NeuroDegeneration FUeled by Lipid metabolism.’ This project aims to explore the interactions between neural organoids and microglia in neurodegenerative diseases using advanced methodologies.

Medical Research Building (MRB1) & Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Lab, Ghent University Hospital, Corneel Heymanslaan 10, B-9000 Ghent, Belgium.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Bioscience Engineering, Biophotonics, Bioinformatics, or an equivalent field.
  • Strong interest in 3D stem cell culture, biomaterials, and microscopy.
  • Experience with (iPSC) tissue culture and neurodegenerative diseases is advantageous.
  • Basic bioinformatics skills or willingness to learn.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will:

  • Establish iPSC-derived human brain organoid or neuron/glia/microglia-based 3D models.
  • Develop novel analysis methods for studying neural-microglia interactions.
  • Co-supervise a PhD student in the same project.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to obtaining external funding, such as FWO or MSCA fellowships.
