Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Biology, Microbial Ecology, Biological Oceanography, or related field
- Background in aquatic microbial ecology
- Strong bioinformatics skills
- Proficiency in bioinformatic analysis of microbial populations or communities
- Experience or interest in research blending field work and metagenomics
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Valid driver’s license for travel to research locations
Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the guidance of Dr. Luciana Santoferrara, Associate Professor of Biology. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting sampling in Long Island Sound, independently or in a team
- Collaborating in the design and execution of experiments involving field samples, incubations, cell quantification, and basic molecular biology
- Leading bioinformatic analyses of shotgun metagenomes
- Collecting and maintaining records of all raw and processed data, as well as lab protocols and computational scripts
- Presenting results at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications
- Assisting in overseeing students and general laboratory maintenance
