POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW- BIOINFORMATICS: The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (Bioinformatics) to join the Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics Unit (MBBU) in Nairobi, Kenya. The selected candidate will support genomic data analysis, develop standardized workflows, and lead bioinformatics capacity-building initiatives. The position is for a two-year contract, renewable based on project needs, funding, and performance.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Genetics, or Genomics.
- At least 2 years’ experience in bioinformatics research and training groups.
- Extensive knowledge of bioinformatics approaches for analyzing omics data.
- Proficiency in Linux environments, Python, R, git version control, and best practices for reproducible bioinformatics analysis.
Job Description: The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will have the following responsibilities:
- Provide support for Bioinformatics data analysis (genomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics data).
- Build Bioinformatics capacity by developing and maintaining analysis workflows and training programs.
- Develop and maintain bioinformatics software for research projects and provide programming support.
- Assist the system administrator in maintaining the Bioinformatics server.
- Collaborate with organizations advancing bioinformatics capacity in Africa.
- Supervise students and interns on relevant projects.
- Support resource mobilization and proposal development.
- Establish Bioinformatics and computational biology research programs aligned with icipe’s mission.
- Analyze project next-generation sequencing (Illumina & Oxford Nanopore) data.
- Mentor and train staff, develop and execute programs, and supervise staff and students.
- Budget monitoring and providing information and data to other units.
- Aim to submit at least two peer-reviewed papers per year.
- Contribute to fundraising for projects as a Principal Investigator (PI) or co-applicant, with at least 2 concept/proposal submissions annually.
- Foster internal and external relations with stakeholders related to their activities.
