Postdoctoral Fellow – Coral Epigenetics: The Marcelino lab at Northwestern University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join a Coral Epigenetics project. The goal of this project is to enhance coral adaptive potential to climate change by investigating acclimatization potential and regulatory mechanisms. The research aims to understand transcriptional reprogramming and improve coral survival during bleaching episodes.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D.
  • Strong practical experience with molecular biology techniques.
  • Some experience in computational genomics.
  • Background in molecular biology is required.
  • Background in coral biology is preferred.
  • Proven critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with genome/transcriptome sequencing analysis is preferred.
  • Programming skills in Python, R, C++, or other languages are preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • A record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Job Description:

  • Investigate coral epigenetics and acclimatization to climate change.
  • Collaborate with researchers and institutions using advanced analysis platforms.
  • Design and perform experiments, including RNA-sequencing and chromatin sequencing.
  • Analyze chromatin imaging data (electron and optical microscopy).
  • Integrate molecular and physical aspects of gene transcription regulation.
  • Prepare original research manuscripts for publication.
  • Participate in writing research grant proposals.
  • Train and supervise new students.
  • Oversee research projects.
  • Collaborate with the Shedd Aquarium on large mesocosmos coral heat stress experiments.
