Postdoctoral Fellow in Data Science: The Human Integrative Physiology Laboratory at Centre EPIC, Montreal Heart Institute, is offering a postdoctoral fellowship opportunity for a highly motivated individual with expertise in data science. This research position focuses on analyzing and interpreting large datasets to understand the impact of indoor heat on the health and well-being of older adults. The role involves working with a multidisciplinary, international team of experts in thermal physiology, public health, and civil and environmental engineering.

Postdoctoral Fellow in Data Science for Human Integrative Physiology

Location: Montreal, Canada

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A doctoral degree (PhD) in engineering, technology, physics, or other relevant disciplines with strong training in data science.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, particularly timeseries data, including cleaning, exploration, feature selection, model training, testing, analysis, and visualization.
  • Strong statistical skills and proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python.
  • Familiarity with Git/GitHub, pandas, NumPy, dplyr, Matplotlib, and ggplot2.
  • Experience with statistical modeling (e.g., SciPy, caret, Ime4) and data visualization tools (e.g., d3.js, plotly) is a plus.
  • Knowledge in data acquisition, database management (AWS or equivalent), and machine learning is an asset.
  • Proficiency in French is not required, but considered an asset.
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications and contributions to open-source projects will be highly regarded.

Job Description:
The selected candidate will contribute to funded research aimed at defining indoor heat thresholds at which the health and well-being of older adults are compromised. Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing large and complex datasets to identify patterns and insights.
  • Developing and testing statistical models to understand the impact of thermal environments on health.
  • Visualizing data and presenting findings to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborating with a diverse team of experts from various fields including thermal physiology, civil and environmental engineering, and public health.
