Postdoctoral Fellow in Department of Chemistry, Ghent University, Belgium:
Ghent University, Belgium, is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences. The position focuses on developing ultrafast infrared optical spectroscopy tools for studying nano-structured materials, specifically quantum dots, within the technologically relevant short and mid-wave infrared (IR) spectrum. This is a limited duration, max. 3-year bursary position with an occupancy rate of 100%.
Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow
Research Area:
- Ultrafast Infrared Optical Spectroscopy
- Quantum Dots
- Integrated Photonics
- Non-linear Optics
Location: Ghent University, Belgium
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Physical Chemistry, or a related field awarded before October 1st, 2024.
- Experience with time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy, preferably in the infrared spectrum.
- Knowledge of non-linear optics and pulsed lasers.
- Experience with multi-dimensional spectroscopy is a plus.
- Proficient programming skills in Python or a similar language.
- Strong command of English (oral and written).
- Independent working style, responsible, and capable of adhering to agreed timelines and milestones.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will:
- Develop ultrafast infrared optical spectroscopy tools to study electronic and vibrational dynamics in nano-structured materials with infrared optical transitions.
- Push the limits of the current setup by developing a femtosecond infrared continuum through gas filamentation, implementing it in 1D ultra-broadband spectroscopy, and using it as a probe for 2D-IR spectroscopy of hybrid organic-inorganic materials.
- Test the advanced setup on new materials under development within the group.
- Lead spectroscopic efforts within the team and contribute significantly to the Core Facility for advanced laser spectroscopy, NOLIMITS.
- Participate in expanding the current ultrafast spectroscopy lab, which includes well-equipped, climatized facilities with pump sources and OPA’s from UV/VIS to IR.
- Mentor other students in the group and develop personal research ideas.
