Postdoctoral Fellow or Researcher – Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)

Postdoctoral Position 2019 in Norway, Norwegian University (NTNU)

Postdoctoral Fellow or Researcher: The Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Food Science (KBM) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow or researcher to contribute to a pioneering project focused on enzymatic CO2 and hydrogen conversion. The position is initially for a two-year term, with potential for extension, contingent upon the candidate’s active involvement in teaching.

Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow or Researcher

Research Area: Biological transformation of CO2 and hydrogen

Location: Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree on a relevant subject with proven ability to produce high-quality scientific results published in high-quality journals
  • Research experience with methodology necessary to carry out at least two items from the list of main tasks

Job Description:

Postdoctoral Fellow or Researcher – Biological Transformation of CO2 and Hydrogen

The successful candidate will collaborate on a FRIPRO project funded by the Research Council of Norway, focused on understanding and evolving enzymes that facilitate the conversion of CO2 to either CO or formate using hydrogen gas as an electron source. The main tasks include:

  • Utilizing bioinformatics tools to identify domains of oxygen-tolerant hydrogenases and CO2-reducing enzymes
  • Expression and purification of relevant enzymes
  • Metabolic engineering of procaryotes
  • Automating enzyme assays using OT-2 robots
  • Structural characterization of enzymes through X-ray crystallography and/or cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM)
  • Performing single crystal spectroscopy, including UV-visible, Raman, and potentially X-ray spectroscopy
  • Modeling enzyme catalysis through quantum chemical methods such as Density Functional Theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics simulations (including pure MD and hybrid QM/MM/MD methods)

How to Apply: To apply for this vacancy, please click on the ‘Apply for this job’ button above, which will route you to the University’s Web Recruitment System. Fill in the online application form, attaching up to ten publications selected as most relevant. If it is difficult to identify the applicant’s contribution in multiple-author publications, provide a short explanation. Printed material that cannot be sent electronically should be sent by surface mail to Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
