Postdoctoral Fellow – Placental Cell Biology: A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Carlos Guardia, Placental Cell Biology Group, at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS/NIH), located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA. The successful candidate will study the molecular mechanisms of autophagy and its regulation in the placenta, focusing on understanding how placental cells respond to various stressors during pregnancy.
Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow
Research Area: Cell Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry
Location: National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC, USA
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field, with less than 2 years of postdoctoral experience. Applicants close to finishing their PhDs will also be considered.
- Strong proficiency in cell biology, particularly in areas such as autophagy, intracellular traffic, and organelle biology.
- Ability to lead independent projects and contribute to collaborative research efforts.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prior experience with at least one of the following techniques: mouse handling and dissection techniques, cell culture techniques, molecular cloning, transfection.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will investigate the molecular mechanisms of autophagy and its regulation in the placenta, focusing on understanding how placental cells respond to stressors during pregnancy and how autophagy regulates placenta and embryo development. The research involves interdisciplinary approaches utilizing protein biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, high-throughput sequencing, proteomics, mouse models, CRISPR, and advanced microscopy techniques.
