Postdoctoral Fellow – Pollinator Monitoring: Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to the large-scale implementation of innovative pollinator monitoring approaches. This position is part of the ANTENNA project, focusing on addressing gaps in pollinator monitoring through advancements in robotics, computer vision, and molecular methods.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in a relevant discipline (biology, environmental science) with a strong interest in biodiversity change
  • Proven experience with biodiversity monitoring pipelines, bioinformatics, and/or biodiversity modeling techniques
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement in biodiversity-related projects
  • Understanding of European biodiversity policy
  • Good publication record and report writing experience
  • Strong team player with a desire for skill development
  • Excellent English language skills (written and verbal)

Job Description: The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead the development and implementation of strategies to integrate novel monitoring technologies into existing pollinator monitoring schemes. Core tasks include:

  1. Leading the development of a framework, data standards, and pipelines for integrating diverse data streams into large-scale monitoring programs.
  2. Improving existing tools and pipelines to automate pollinator specimen management.
  3. Collaborating with project partners to design a roadmap for European-wide pollinator monitoring.
  4. Engaging stakeholders through co-design, field testing, and iterative refinement processes.

The project will be conducted in the NL Biodiversity and Society Research Group of Naturalis, focusing on biodiversity monitoring, patterns of change, and future solutions.

We Offer: A contract for a period of one year (36 hours per week), possibly extended until the end of the project (March 2027) after a successful first-year evaluation. The monthly starting salary is between EUR 3.468 and EUR 4.506. The starting date is May 1st, 2024.
