Postdoctoral Fellows at Western University: Western, one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities, is seeking two Postdoctoral Associates under the joint supervision of Dr. Naomi Kinghoffer and Dr. Christopher DeGroot. The positions are for a one-year appointment, starting on September 1, 2023. Applications will be reviewed from June 15, 2023, onwards until the positions are filled. The successful candidates will be appointed to the Western Academy for Advanced Research (WAFAR) and will contribute to research under the theme of “Nature-Inspired Solutions for Carbon Transformation.” We will work on using natural methods to transform and store carbon, focusing on reusing waste, producing valuable resources, and contributing to a circular economy.

- PhD in an Engineering discipline related to the proposed research obtained within the past five years
- Established record of publications in peer-reviewed literature relevant to the proposed research
- Highly motivated to develop technologies for carbon transformation and storage
- Enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary team in an in-person collaborative environment
Job Description:
- Conduct research on the development of solutions for carbon transformation and storage using nature-inspired methods
- Focus on waste stream utilization, valuable output production, and contribution to a circular economy
- Explore areas such as thermochemical conversion of biomass/waste, catalysis for sustainable fuel production, life cycle assessment, CO2 capture and conversion, water resource recovery, and photobioreactor design and modeling
- Work under the joint supervision of Dr. Naomi Kinghoffer and Dr. Christopher DeGroot
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams at the Western Academy for Advanced Research (WAFAR)
