Postdoctoral Fellowship in Comparative Equality: The South African Research Chair in Equality, Law and Social Justice, affiliated with the School of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of equality law, preferably with a focus on comparative African equality law. The fellowship is set to commence in the first half of 2024, initially for twelve months, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on available funding.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed doctoral degree within the last five years.
  • Proven ability in research and writing.
  • South African citizens, permanent residents, and outstanding international candidates interested in undertaking postdoctoral research in South Africa are eligible to apply.

Job Description:

  • Duration: Initial twelve months, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
  • Fellowship Value: R275,000.00 in 2024, plus access to modest research and travel expenses.
  • Full-time position; fellows expected to be based at the University of the Witwatersrand.
  • Fellows may not be in full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
  • Successful candidates must engage in research in the field of equality law, publish at least two accredited articles per annum, and contribute to the work of the Chair, including managing a project on comparative African equality law.
