Postdoctoral Fellowship in DNA Stability: The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Umeå University, Sweden, is inviting applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship focused on studying proteins that ensure the stability of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in eukaryotes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to research that explores the molecular mechanisms promoting mtDNA stability and the communication of mtDNA defects within cells.
Postdoctoral Fellowship to Study Mitochondrial DNA Stability
Designation
Postdoctoral Fellow
Research Area
Mitochondrial Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology
Location
Umeå, Sweden
Eligibility/Qualification
- A PhD degree or equivalent in biochemistry, cell or molecular biology, genetics, or a related discipline.
- Practical experience in expression, purification, and functional analysis of recombinant proteins or cell and molecular biological studies of mitochondria.
- A strong research track record evidenced by first authorship in peer-reviewed publications.
- Prior experience in mitochondrial DNA metabolism and/or retrograde signaling is a strong merit.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an international team.
- Proficient in oral and written communication skills in English.
Job Description
Mitochondria are crucial organelles responsible for generating cellular energy in the form of ATP. Disruptions in mitochondrial function can result in various diseases, including mitochondrial disorders and certain types of cancer. The postdoctoral fellow will investigate how cells maintain mtDNA stability and how defects in mtDNA impact cellular signaling. Research will be conducted using in vitro biochemistry assays and cell/molecular biology techniques in human cells.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Characterizing the mechanisms promoting mtDNA stability.
- Investigating the consequences of mtDNA defects and retrograde signaling.
- Conducting experiments and analysis using recombinant proteins and cell-based approaches.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their application in English, which must include:
- A cover letter outlining scientific background and objectives for the post-doctoral period (maximum one A4 page).
- A curriculum vitae (CV) including a full publication list.
- A copy of the PhD certificate or proof of a scheduled PhD defense.
- The names and contact information of three reference persons.
Applications must be submitted via the e-recruitment system Varbi.
Last Date to Apply
