Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mass Spectrometry: The Department of Chemistry at Vancouver Island University (VIU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mass Spectrometry. The fellowship is part of a multi-institutional research project focused on using cutting-edge mass spectrometry imaging technology to investigate molecular mechanisms of tumor-driven immunosuppression in various types of solid cancers. The successful candidate will work in the world-class mass spectrometry facility at VIU and collaborate with leading scientists from BC Cancer, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria. This is a temporary full-time position with a two-year appointment, offering a competitive salary ranging from $45,000 to $60,000 per year, depending on experience.

Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow

Research Area: Mass Spectrometry, specifically focusing on nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano-DESI) methods to map metabolites in heterogeneous tumors.

Location: Nanaimo campus, Vancouver Island University, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or equivalent.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry and electrospray ionization.
  • Preferred: Experience with mass spectrometry imaging and programmatic data evaluation (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, etc.).

Job Description: The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the multi-institutional project, developing and applying nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano-DESI) methods to map metabolites in heterogeneous tumors. The research will focus on exploring molecular mechanisms of tumor-driven immunosuppression in various types of solid cancers. The postdoctoral fellow will collaborate with esteemed scientists from BC Cancer, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Victoria, while also participating in interlaboratory exchanges and cancer immunometabolism research programs. The position offers ample opportunities for professional growth and development through informal and formal project team initiatives.
