Postdoctoral for Computational Oncology Group, CNIO, Madrid, Spain

Postdoc in Spain

Postdoctoral for Computational Oncology Group: The Spanish National Cancer Center (CNIO) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join the Computational Oncology Group led by Geoff Macintyre. The successful candidate will work on a pioneering project focusing on the development of computational approaches to guide the chemoprevention of cancer.

Postdoctoral Research Assistant for Computational Oncology Group

Designation:
Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Research Area:
Computational Oncology, Cancer Genomics, Tumor Evolution, Mutational Signature Analysis

Location:
Spanish National Cancer Center (CNIO), Madrid, Spain

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, physics, or statistics.
  • Proven expertise in bioinformatics, particularly in cancer genomics, tumor evolution, and mutational signature analysis.
  • Experience in analyzing whole genome sequence data.
  • Proficiency in coding, preferably in R and Python.
  • Experience with high-performance and/or cloud computing.
  • Manuscript writing skills.
  • Proficiency in English.

Job Description:
The selected candidate will be involved in developing new AI methodologies to process sequencing data from a large collection of tumor genomes, aiming to decompose patterns of chromosomal instability (CIN) at an unprecedented resolution and at different timepoints of tumor evolution. This will involve reformulating features to encode patterns of copy number changes at base-pair resolution, and decomposing CIN in the new feature space by applying deep-learning approaches. Additionally, the candidate will characterize these signatures by integrating orthogonal data to elucidate the underlying biology of the new CIN signatures. Furthermore, the role involves designing a web-based tool to leverage these advances in identifying and quantifying mutational processes in new tumor samples. The successful applicant will collaborate closely with lab members, contribute to algorithm development, and work with clinical collaborators across Spain and the UK to ensure the research directly benefits patients.

How to Apply:
Interested applicants should send their applications and resumes by e-mail to employment@cnio.es, clearly quoting the Reference: AICO in the subject line of the e-mail. Applications without a reference will not be considered.
