Location: Brainergy Park Jülich

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related disciplines
  • Fundamental knowledge in structural characterization of matter, ideally synchrotron methods (e.g., X-ray diffraction, X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray microscopy)
  • Extensive experiences in the fields of catalysis, chemical hydrogen storage, energy sciences, interfaces
  • Experience with programming languages (ideally Python)
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Very independent and self-motivated way of working but also excellent teamwork skills
  • High motivation to take on responsibility and develop own research idea

Job Description:

  • Characterization of catalytic interfaces for chemical hydrogen storage on the atomic scale using operando synchrotron-based high-energy X-ray diffraction
  • Design of chemical hydrogen storage reactors for operando studies
  • Coordination and execution of synchrotron beam times
  • Super-user on modern laboratory X-ray instruments
  • Publication and presentation of results in high-ranking and recognized journals and at national and international conferences
  • Collaboration with other research groups
  • Supervision of PhD students and other students
  • Support in the preparation of third-party funding proposals
  • Support in establishing the institute
