Eligibility/Qualification:

Essential Criteria:

  1. PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  2. Proven ability to contribute to writing and publishing research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  3. Strong background in atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, especially of polymers and/or proteins.
  4. Experienced in Python programming for molecular simulation and cheminformatics.
  5. Proficient with GitHub repositories and Unix/Linux-based high-performance computing environments.
  6. Good communication skills, with the ability to present research to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Experience with machine-learning interatomic potentials in large-scale molecular dynamics simulations.
  2. Exposure to multicultural and international research environments.
  3. Research experience in modeling molecular/materials degradation.
  4. Familiarity with AI/ML for molecular/materials discovery and property prediction.

Job Description:

The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Francisco Martin-Martinez and Dr. Micaela Matta. The role involves:

  • Developing an in-silico framework to accelerate the discovery of novel Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) polymers for sustainable food packaging.
  • Understanding end-of-life degradation mechanisms of these materials.
  • Collaborating with experimental partners in a pan-European project consortium.

You will have access to state-of-the-art high-performance computing resources and will work alongside experts in computational and experimental chemistry.
