phd funding - Poland

Postdoctoral in Protein Structure: The Laboratory of Protein Structure at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB) is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher for a project aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of plastid genome packaging. This position offers an opportunity to work on an exciting project funded by NAWA BPN/NSF/2023/1/00011 titled “IMPRESS-U DCL: Supplement: Structure and function of plastid nucleoid.”

Postdoctoral Researcher Position in the Laboratory of Protein Structure

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area:
The project focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of DNA packaging in plastids, involving the purification of relevant proteins, and their biochemical and structural studies using cryo-EM and protein crystallography techniques.

Location:
International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Holds a PhD degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine, or equivalent field. Candidates with degrees in other fields including Engineering, Computer Science, Physics will also be considered if they have relevant experience.
  • Experience in protein biochemistry/purification (particularly for nucleic acid enzymes), with knowledge of crystallography and/or cryo-EM being a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Good presentation skills, ideally with experience presenting at least one international conference.
  • Has published at least one publication as the first author in an international peer-reviewed journal.
  • High motivation and proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • Enjoys working in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

Job Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for establishing the currently unknown mechanisms of DNA packaging in plastids. This will involve the purification of proteins involved in this process and their biochemical and structural studies using cryo-EM and protein crystallography. The position offers a friendly working atmosphere in an international environment, interesting scientific projects, and a 100% focus on research with no teaching obligations.
