Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme for PhD in Cambridge, UK

Postdoctoral in Super-Resolution Microscopy: The University of Cambridge invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position to explore extracellular interactions in T-cell signaling. This role will utilize advanced single-molecule imaging and super-resolution microscopy techniques.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Single-Molecule Imaging and Super-Resolution Microscopy

Designation:

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Research Area:

Biophysics, Immunology, Optical Microscopy

Location:

Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD (or close to completion) in chemistry, physics, biophysics, optical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in optical microscopy, single-molecule imaging, and/or super-resolution techniques (e.g., STORM, PAINT, MINFLUX, or lattice light-sheet microscopy).
  • Experience in instrument development, including custom optics and hardware automation.
  • Proficiency in programming (Python, MATLAB) for image processing and data analysis.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a commitment to interdisciplinary research.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement next-generation 3D super-resolution microscopy techniques to visualize and characterize close contacts in T-cell signaling.
  • Engineer advanced optical microscopy tools to map the nanoscale distribution of TCRs, coreceptors, and immune checkpoints on T cells.
  • Apply high-speed, high-density 3D single-molecule super-resolution imaging to study spatial organization of immune receptors.
  • Collaborate with biophysicists and immunologists at the University of Oxford, integrating imaging data with computational models of receptor signaling and T-cell activation.
