Postdoctoral – Molecular Microbiology: A postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. David Wang at Washington University Medical Campus. The focus of this position is on RNA bacteriophage biology, with an emphasis on identifying bacterial hosts, culturing novel RNA phages such as Picobirnaviruses, characterizing lysis mechanisms, defining the impact of RNA phage on the microbiome, and identifying bacterial defense systems against RNA phage.

Eligibility/Qualification: Requires a PhD or equivalent. Preferred qualifications include expertise and experience in virology and bacteriology.

Job Description:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a research project leading to publication.
  • Develop expertise in virus-host interactions, particularly bacteriophage infection of bacteria.
  • Develop proficiency in career skills such as writing, public speaking, networking, and critical evaluation of literature.
  • Present work internally and externally with excellent oral communication skills.
  • Assist with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit papers on research with excellent writing skills.
  • Design research projects.
  • Maintain ethical standards in research.
  • Contribute to a collegial environment within the research group or department.

Working Conditions: This position involves work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Protective equipment must be worn, and standard care for research animals may be required.

Salary Range: Base pay is commensurate with experience.
