Postdoctoral Position in Airborne Pathogen: The Atmospheric Science Group at the University of Basel is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop a novel instrument for near real-time detection of airborne pathogens as part of a collaborative project with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in biology, atmospheric science, engineering, physics, analytical chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in experimental research and instrument design/prototyping.
  • Strong knowledge of microfluidic device design is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with aerosol sampling, particle characterization, or biosensing methods is advantageous.
  • Excellent organizational skills, teamwork, and communication abilities.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of German is a plus.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the optimization and testing of a bioaerosol detection instrument with a focus on influenza viruses.
  • Integrate modules for bioaerosol collection, biological detection, and flow cytometry measurement.
  • Conduct laboratory and field experiments, analyze data, and evaluate performance.
  • Collaborate closely with project partners and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
