Postdoctoral Position in Cardiovascular Genetics: Umeå University’s Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join its translational research team. This role focuses on uncovering molecular signatures of myocarditis to improve diagnostic accuracy and clinical risk stratification. The project is embedded in a multidisciplinary research setting at the intersection of cardiology, virology, genomics, and bioinformatics.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required Education:
  • PhD or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine, or related fields.
  • Degree must have been awarded no more than three years before the application deadline (exceptions allowed for personal reasons such as illness, parental leave, etc.).
  • Core Skills and Experience Requirements:
  • Strong background in microRNA research and next-generation sequencing technologies.
  • Expertise in designing and conducting experiments to identify microRNA profiles in clinical samples.
  • Experience in preparing sequencing libraries for whole-genome sequencing.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular genetics and its applications.
  • Desired Skills:
  • Bioinformatics skills (particularly analyzing microRNA and sequencing data).
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams, and deliver high-quality results within deadlines.
  • Eligibility Exception Clause:
    Candidates with a PhD degree older than three years may apply under special circumstances (e.g., illness, clinical practice, etc.).

Job Description:

The postdoctoral fellow will engage in:

  • Laboratory-based research, with a focus on microRNA profiling and whole-genome/exome sequencing, including metagenomic approaches to study the virome.
  • Analysis of well-characterized clinical samples to determine molecular mechanisms of myocarditis and associated long-term cardiac complications (e.g., dilated cardiomyopathy).
  • Active participation in scientific meetings, collaborative research projects, and dissemination of findings via high-impact publications and conference presentations.
  • Documentation and maintenance of reproducible experimental workflows.
  • Collaborating with medical experts from the Heart Centre, Pediatric Clinic, and Centre for Cardiovascular Genetics.
