Postdoctoral Position in Cell Toxicology, EPFL, Switzerland

Postdoc Position - 2019 in Switzerland, EPFL School of Engineering

Postdoctoral Position in Cell Toxicology: Eawag, EPFL, and the Swiss Centre for Applied Ecotoxicology are collaborating on an interdisciplinary effort funded by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) Tire Industry Project. The project focuses on assessing the fate, behavior, and ecotoxicity of tire wear particles in the aquatic environment. This postdoctoral position specifically aims to investigate the interaction of tire wear particles and associated chemicals with fish cell lines as proxies for fish, addressing challenges related to tissue specificity, toxic mechanisms, and the contribution of tire components to toxicity.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Cell Toxicology – Fate and Ecotoxicity of Tire Wear Particles in Aquatic Environments

Location: Eawag, Dübendorf, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in biology/biochemistry, environmental sciences, or related fields
  • Expertise in cell biology and toxicology
  • Strong interest in aquatic toxicology, environmental risk assessment, and protection
  • Prior experience in particle-related research (asset)
  • Independent, critical thinking, curiosity, solid work ethics, mature team attitude, and good English skills

Job Description: The Postdoc will play a key role in investigating the interaction of tire wear particles with fish cell lines, addressing challenges such as tissue specificity and the contribution of tire components to toxicity. The objective is to assemble a comprehensive understanding of particle-organism interactions and screen for alternative tire components with reduced toxicity. This research contributes to the development of more environmentally friendly and sustainable products. The position is for 24 months, based at Eawag in Dübendorf.
