The Apostolova Lab at the Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to lead an ambitious interdisciplinary project. This role sits at the intersection of leukemia biology, tumor immunology, and cellular metabolism, investigating how metabolic programs enable leukemia cells to adapt to therapeutic pressure and interact with the immune system.
| Designation | Postdoctoral Researcher |
| Research Area | Leukemia Immunology and Metabolism |
| Location | Basel, Switzerland |
| Last Date to Apply | Open until filled |
Job Description
The successful candidate will lead research investigating how leukemia metabolism influences tumor-immune crosstalk. Key research directions include studying metabolic adaptation under therapeutic pressure, the effects of leukemia-derived metabolites on immune-cell function, and the identification of novel therapeutic targets.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Designing and performing mechanistic experiments, including in vivo animal studies.
- Analyzing and presenting complex scientific data (including multi-omics).
- Mentoring PhD and MSc students within the lab.
- Contributing to scientific manuscripts, grant applications, and international meetings.
- Developing collaborative projects within a highly interactive environment spanning cancer biology and genomics.
Eligibility/Qualification
The lab is looking for an experimental scientist with a strong intellectual curiosity and a background in mechanistic cancer research. Requirements include:
- A PhD (or equivalent degree) in cancer biology, immunology, molecular biology, hematology, or a related discipline.
- Substantial hands-on experience with in vivo mouse tumor models (ideally hematological cancers).
- Extensive experience with spectral flow cytometry and molecular biology techniques.
- A strong experimental track record, preferably with at least one high-quality first-author publication.
- Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Willingness to take intellectual ownership of an ambitious project.
Experience in CRISPR screening, metabolism, or histology is considered an advantage.
Research Environment
The Apostolova Lab provides access to state-of-the-art infrastructure at the University of Basel, including flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, single-cell and spatial technologies, and mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. The group prioritizes mentorship and values diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit their application through the University of Basel’s official recruitment portal. Applications should typically include a CV, a cover letter outlining research interests, and contact information for references.
