Postdoctoral Position in Plant Biology – Okayama University, Japan

Research Fellowship (Postdoc) Program 2020 in Japan : Researchersjob

Postdoctoral Position in Plant Biology: A postdoctoral position is available at the Institute of Plant Science and Resources (IPSR), Okayama University, focusing on chloroplast biogenesis. The position is funded by the MEXT grant ‘Photosynthesis Ubiquity’ and involves research on the structure of thylakoid membrane remodeling factors within the framework of the Photosynthetic Environmental Adaptation project.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Chloroplast Biology and Thylakoid Membrane Remodeling

Location: Institute of Plant Science and Resources, Okayama University, Japan

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in a relevant field (preferably in photosynthesis, cell biology, or membrane structures).
  • Background in basic microscopic observation and image analysis using fluorescent proteins.
  • Previous experience with electron microscopy is not necessary but advantageous.
  • Strong interest in photosynthesis, cell biology, and membrane structures.

Job Description:

Postdoctoral Position in Plant Biology – Chloroplast Biology and Thylakoid Membrane Remodeling

The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the Sakamoto Group at IPSR, contributing to the ‘Photosynthesis Ubiquity’ project. The focus is on understanding how the thylakoid membrane coordinates its morphology and function during chloroplast biogenesis. The candidate will engage in genetic, biochemical, and physiological analyses, cell biology, and structural biology. The project aims to visualize the oligomeric structures of specific remodeling molecules using cutting-edge cryo-electron microscopic techniques. Collaboration with structural biologists under the consortium project is expected.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should contact Professor Wataru Sakamoto (saka(AT)okayama-u.ac.jp, @WataruSakamoto3) for any queries related to the position. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the contact details of two referees. Please submit the application materials to the following address:
