Postdoctoral Position in Political Science: The Research Group on Multilevel Politics (MLP) at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS) of ETH Zurich invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. This full-time, fixed-term position is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Starting Grant “Public Reinsurance in Multilevel Polities” (EUROPE RE) and is to be filled as soon as possible.
Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area: Political Science, with a focus on the project “Public Reinsurance in Multilevel Polities” (EUROPE RE), investigating the European Union’s role as a provider of “public reinsurance” during global and transboundary crises.
Location: Zurich, Switzerland
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Completed doctorate (or close to completion) in political science or a related discipline.
- Experience in empirical research in European studies and/or multilevel governance.
- Excellent methodological skills; experience with survey experiments and/or quantitative text analysis is required.
- Proficiency in programming languages R or Python, and experience in handling large datasets.
- Competence to work independently and collaborate within a larger research team.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Job Description:
- Contribute to the conceptual and empirical analysis of public reinsurance in the EU.
- Develop a novel dataset on EU-level capacities for transboundary risk management.
- Collect public opinion data through a conjoint survey experiment.
- Investigate elite preferences using quantitative text analysis.
- Collaborate with EUROPE RE’s team of research assistants, PhD researchers, and the group leader.
