Postdoctoral Position in Protein Engineering: The Laboratory of Biochemistry-GQBB at the Institut Químic de Sarrià, University Ramon Llull in Barcelona, is seeking a highly talented postdoctoral researcher to join a collaborative project on protein engineering of carbohydrate active enzymes in biocatalysis and synthetic biology.
Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Protein Engineering
Designation
Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area
- Protein Engineering
- Carbohydrate Active Enzymes (CAZymes)
- Biocatalysis
- Synthetic Biology
- Metabolic Labeling and Microbiome Studies
Location
Barcelona, Spain
Eligibility/Qualification
- PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Experience in molecular cloning, protein expression, protein engineering, and directed evolution, preferably on carbohydrate active enzymes.
- Skills in cellular assays and modeling/computer-aided protein design.
- Strong communication and team-building skills for collaborative work in a research environment.

Job Description
The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily involved in leading a project that focuses on developing engineered glycosidase enzymes and un-natural glycoconjugate substrate pairs for bio-orthogonal and selective in vivo unmasking of probes, metabolites, and labeling agents. The position requires state-of-the-art protein design and engineering through directed evolution approaches, along with the development of high-throughput screening methods. Biochemical characterization of engineered variants for specificity and bio-orthogonality will also be crucial, with applications in microbiome studies and metabolic labeling.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit the following documentation to IQS Human Resources at rrhh@iqs.url.edu and Prof. Antoni Planas at antoni.planas@iqs.url.edu with the subject line: Postdoc LabBio2024:
- A letter of interest detailing previous experiences relevant to the program.
- A full CV including two main publications from the applicant.
- Two letters of recommendation from scientists with whom the applicant has collaborated.
