Study Area:
Structural Biology with a focus on intracellular transport mechanisms, involving actin filaments, microtubules, and membranous compartments.

Scholarship Description:
This postdoctoral position will explore the previously undescribed large-scale intracellular transport machinery through in-situ structural biology. The project will involve using cryo-electron tomography and subtomogram averaging for ultrastructural analysis. Candidates will also have opportunities to develop new processing pipelines for these methodologies. The PostDoc will conduct all experiments on-site using state-of-the-art equipment available at the Integrated Structural Biology platform at IGBMC, including multiple Titan Krios microscopes, cryo-FIB/SEM, and cryo-light microscopes. The position is part of a vibrant and international research community.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have a PhD in a biology-related discipline. Experience in cryo-electron tomography is preferred, but candidates with a strong interest in learning the technique will also be considered. Additional skills in cryo-focused ion-beam milling, correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM), programming, and experience with cytoskeletal elements will be advantageous.

Required Documents:
Applicants should send the following documents in English, compiled as a single PDF:

  • A motivation letter detailing your educational and scientific experiences and how they have prepared you for this project (maximum 1 page).
  • Your CV.
  • A copy of your PhD degree or certification that the degree will be issued.
  • A description of the most significant technical challenge faced during your PhD studies, how it was overcome, and the lessons learned (maximum 1 page).
  • The names and contact details of 2 referees.

How to Apply:
Submit your application as a single PDF document to florian.faessler@igbme.fr.

Last Date:
The application deadline is 27th September 2024.
