Postdoctoral Position in ICFO

Postdoctoral Position in Sustainable Energy Materials: ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to outstanding, highly motivated scientists who wish to contribute to advancing technologies that drive the clean energy transition. This position focuses on developing novel strategies to overcome critical resource bottlenecks in energy devices, particularly in recyclable energy conversion technologies such as electrolyzers, batteries, and solar cells.

Postdoctoral Position in Accelerating the Development of Sustainable Energy Materials

Designation:

Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Quantum physics

Location:

ICFO โ€“ The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona, Spain

Eligibility/Qualification:

Candidates must hold, at the time of contract initiation, an internationally-recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in quantum physics.

The candidate should have a proven experience in:

  • high-impact scientific research in experimental quantum optics.
  • quantum memories, quantum light matter interaction, quantum light sources,
  • generation and characterization of entanglement will be positively valued,
  • experience in experimental quantum physics is required.

Job Description:

The contract is offered initially for a period of 2 years.

ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

The successful candidate will be joining the Quantum Photonics group led by Prof. Hugues de Riedmatten.

The group has experience in quantum technologies for quantum networks, including quantum memories, quantum light sources, quantum frequency conversion and quantum processing nodes. The current position will be within a project aiming at developing quantum network nodes with laser cooled atoms, including quantum memories and highly excited Rydberg atoms enabling deterministic quantum light generation and processing capabilities. The nodes will be tested with photonic integrated lasers and modulators

The selected candidate will strongly benefit from a multidisciplinary environment with other postdocs and PhD students working in quantum technologies at ICFO and with strong collaborations with our European academic and industrial partners in the framework of the Q-Planet project.

This contract will be supported by the European Unionโ€™s Horizon Europe (Q-Planet, 101291743), Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) and the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service under reference CJU-010200-2026-6, as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

How to Apply:

Suitable candidates are requested to submit:

  • Presentation letter with a declaration of interest,
  • Curriculum Vitae, including contact details,
  • The contact e-mail of two potential referees.

Applications should be submitted via the ICFOjobs platform http://jobs.icfo.eu.

The selection process is conducted in accordance with ICFOโ€™s Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R) Policy, ensuring equal opportunities, transparency, and fair treatment for all applicants. Candidates are assessed exclusively on the basis of their qualifications, experience, skills, achievements, and potential in relation to the requirements of the position. Further information on the recruitment principles and procedures, conflict of interest and the appeals mechanism available to candidates, can be found in the OTM-R
