1. Postdoctoral Researcher: Host Pathogen Mycobactomics
Project Title: Exploiting in vivo models to assess novel treatment and prevention approaches for Tuberculosis
Host: Prof. Samantha Sampson, Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University
Scope of Research: The candidate will contribute to projects exploring novel host-directed approaches to TB treatment and developing mRNA-based vaccine candidates. In vivo infection models, including rodent models, will be utilized to advance the development of vaccines and host-directed therapies for TB.
Location: Stellenbosch University
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in molecular mycobacteriology or equivalent (within the last 2 years)
- Experience in a research laboratory environment
- Familiarity with general laboratory practice, techniques, and instrumentation
- Experience with rodent models, flow cytometry, and biosafety level 2 and 3 working practices
- Ability to publish and secure funding
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise in microbiological and molecular techniques
- Assist with equipment and supplies procurement
- Record and maintain relevant data
- Contribute to result presentations, grant reports, and scientific publications
- Compliance with University policies
- Other duties as directed by the supervisor or Head of Department
