1. Postdoctoral Researcher: Host Pathogen Mycobactomics

Project Title: Exploiting in vivo models to assess novel treatment and prevention approaches for Tuberculosis

Host: Prof. Samantha Sampson, Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University

Scope of Research: The candidate will contribute to projects exploring novel host-directed approaches to TB treatment and developing mRNA-based vaccine candidates. In vivo infection models, including rodent models, will be utilized to advance the development of vaccines and host-directed therapies for TB.

Location: Stellenbosch University

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in molecular mycobacteriology or equivalent (within the last 2 years)
  • Experience in a research laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with general laboratory practice, techniques, and instrumentation
  • Experience with rodent models, flow cytometry, and biosafety level 2 and 3 working practices
  • Ability to publish and secure funding

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise in microbiological and molecular techniques
  • Assist with equipment and supplies procurement
  • Record and maintain relevant data
  • Contribute to result presentations, grant reports, and scientific publications
  • Compliance with University policies
  • Other duties as directed by the supervisor or Head of Department

Host: Rare Disease Genomics in South Africa (RDGSA), Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University

  • Experience in NGS dataset analysis (exome and genome sequencing)
