Postdoctoral/Project Scientist Position in Computational Chemistry/Physics and Materials Science

Designation: Postdoctoral Associate/Project Scientist

Research Area:
Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT), Electron Scattering, Quantum Dynamics of Periodic Material Systems, Solvated Environments, Electronic-Excited States, Quantum Computing and Quantum Information, Density Functional Tight Binding (DFTB), Machine Learning for Chemical/Material Systems.

Location: Riverside, California (proximity to Los Angeles) with potential collaborations at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories (LBNL).

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in contemporary electronic structure methods and/or methodological development using first-principles quantum methods.
  • Expertise in relevant research areas is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and running calculations using standard and non-standard ab initio and quantum codes.
  • Proven ability to write and publish journal articles based on developed methods, calculations, and results.
  • Capability to mentor graduate students and present work at conferences.
  • Salary commensurate with experience levels as per the University of California pay scale.

Job Description:
The Postdoctoral/Project Scientist will:

  • Conduct research in TDDFT, electron scattering, or general quantum dynamics of periodic material systems or solvated environments.
  • Potentially contribute to electronic-excited states, quantum computing, DFTB, and machine learning projects, based on expertise.
  • Collaborate with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories on joint exascale/TD-DFT projects, with opportunities for visits and work at LBNL.
  • Develop and run calculations using cutting-edge ab initio and quantum codes.
  • Author journal articles on developed methods, calculations, and results.
  • Assist in mentoring graduate students and actively participate in conferences to disseminate research findings.
