Study Area: The research will focus on understanding the impact of ambient temperature on the translation process, utilizing the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The Balcerowicz lab aims to unravel how warm temperatures regulate gene expression, with a broader goal of enhancing plant resilience to a changing climate.
Scholarship Description: The successful appointee will lead an interdisciplinary research project investigating the effects of ambient temperature on translation processes using Arabidopsis as a model system. State-of-the-art next-generation sequencing approaches, including RNA sequencing and ribosome profiling, will be employed. The project offers an opportunity to develop technical and transferrable skills while working on the forefront of plant research.
Eligibility: Candidates must hold or be close to obtaining a PhD in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. A strong track record in (plant) molecular biology is essential, along with expertise in next-generation sequencing or similar “big data” approaches. Experience in translatome analysis and proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python or R) is desirable.
Required Documents: Applicants should submit the following documents:
- CV
- Cover letter
- PhD certificate or evidence of imminent completion
- Academic transcripts
- Contact details for two referees
How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their application via the university’s online portal. For further inquiries about the position, please contact Dr Martin Balcerowicz at mbalcerowicz001@dundee.ac.uk. Additional information about the research group can be found at https://sites.dundee.ac.uk/balcerowicz-lab.
Last Date: The application deadline is 25th March 2024. Late submissions will not be considered. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in plant sciences at the University of Dundee. Apply now!
