Postdoctoral Research Assistant- Seifert: An exciting opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Fixed Term) in collaboration with the NSF BII: Viral Emergence Research Institute. This position is within the Molecular Ecology of Zoonotic and Animal Pathogens Lab at the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health, led by Dr. Stephanie N. Seifert.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Recent Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biology, Virology, Microbiology, Genetics, or related field
  • Proficiency in genomic and transcriptomic data analysis tools such as R and Python
  • Demonstrated experience in modeling complex biological systems and multi-omic data integration
  • Strong communication skills and a proven record of scientific publications
  • Ability to conduct independent research and manage projects effectively
  • Detail-oriented with problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience or strong interest in virology and zoonotic diseases

Job Description:
The Postdoctoral Research Assistant will be responsible for advancing research projects focused on modeling the bat virome and understanding virus-host compatibilities. This role will involve analyzing genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data from various sources, including experimental data from the lab. The role requires contributing to the development of machine learning models to predict host-virus compatibility, using R and/or Python. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team and actively participate in lab meetings and department seminars. Opportunity for conference attendance and collaboration meetings will be provided.
