Postdoctoral Research Associate: The University of Georgia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Social Work-Dean’s Office. The position involves research-focused training in computational social science tools in social work and related fields. The postdoctoral fellow will work on multidisciplinary research projects, be mentored in independent research, and focus on areas such as child safety, family wellbeing, health, behavioral health, social and economic policy development, and human trafficking.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in social work, social science discipline, statistics, computer science, or a related field
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Demonstrated interest in data science, analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computational social science research
  • Capacity to manage research projects, including data collection, cleaning, analysis, and dissemination

Job Description:

  • Collect, organize, and analyze project-relevant data (45%)
  • Design, manage, and organize individually directed research projects (30%)
  • Prepare, submit, and revise manuscripts, grant proposals, and conference abstracts/presentations (15%)
  • Engage in independent professional development activities (10%)

Position Details:

  • Full-time position (1.0 FTE)
  • Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. and research experience
  • Anticipated Start Date: 04/01/2024

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification:

  • Ph.D. in relevant field
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Interest in data science, analytics, machine learning, and computational social science
  • Capacity to manage research projects

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Design, conduct, and disseminate original research
  • Present research orally in various settings
  • Write manuscripts for publication, grant proposals, and conference abstracts
  • Willingness to learn and use high-performance computing and data management software platforms

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to travel regularly to campus
  • Endure sitting in an office environment for long periods
  • Lift up to 30 lbs.
