Postdoctoral Research Associate: The Institute for Condensed Matter Physics and Complex Systems at the University of Edinburgh is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. This role focuses on developing new numerical and analytical tools for the study of open quantum systems, emphasizing disorder in two-dimensional systems.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A completed PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Background in quantum simulation or condensed matter physics, with a publication record appropriate for career stage.
  • Proven expertise in computational techniques for quantum simulation, including tensor networks and GPU acceleration libraries.
  • Evidence of ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience in student supervision is advantageous but not essential.

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Steven Thomson on an EPSRC funded project titled โ€œDisorder in Open Quantum Systems.โ€ The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Developing computational tools for studying thermalisation and equilibration in disordered quantum systems.
  • Utilizing high-performance computing techniques and potentially benefitting from GPU acceleration.
  • Exploring fundamental physics in novel parameter regimes relevant to contemporary quantum technologies.

This is a full-time position, fixed term for 36 months, with the prospect of funded research activities and publication opportunities.
