Postdoctoral Research Associate: The Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. This role focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving the weight-loss effects of MariTide, an innovative anti-obesity therapeutic currently in Phase 2 clinical trials. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Prof. Giles Yeo and Dr. Loraine Tung as part of an industrial collaboration grant from AMGEN.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology or Biochemistry, or a related discipline with demonstrated expertise in GPCR biology.
  • Extensive research experience in a wide range of cell biology techniques such as luminescent assays, neuroscience assays, immunoassays, and microscopy.
  • Understanding of mammalian neurobiology.
  • Excellent presentation skills with a record of national and international presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Ability to teach and mentor graduate students.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting experiments and novel research tool development.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to participate in collaborative research projects.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Conduct research investigating the impact of MariTide on human neuronal cell models, including those from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
  • Assist in analyzing spatial transcriptomic data from mouse brains treated with MariTide.
  • Present research findings nationally and internationally, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Provide guidance to graduate students and other research group members in molecular biology and cellular imaging techniques.
  • Support Principal Investigator in preparing manuscripts and applications for funding.
