Research Area
The research will focus on understanding the mechanism of DNA packaging by viruses and Gene Transfer Agents (GTAs), aiming to provide insights into virus replication and the implications for gene dissemination.
Location
University of York, UK
Eligibility / Qualification
- A PhD (or nearing completion) in structural biology, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, or related fields.
- Knowledge of molecular biology and genetics of bacterial viruses.
- Experience in relevant techniques such as:
- Production and purification of bacteriophage or virus-like particles.
- Protein purification.
- Structure determination by crystallography or Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM).
Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Investigate the structure and mechanisms of DNA packaging by GTAs and viruses.
- Produce and purify GTA particles and bacteriophages.
- Conduct structural studies using cryo-electron microscopy and single particle 3D reconstruction.
- Engage in molecular and genetic interrogation of bacterial hosts and GTAs, alongside biochemical assays to analyze DNA packaging mechanisms.
