Postdoctoral Research Associate: The Data and AI Systems Research Section/Workflow Systems Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to enhance capabilities in creating AI-ready scientific data. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or related discipline (completed within the last five years).
  • Strong record of research excellence as demonstrated by publications in top peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in HPC, AI/ML, and/or distributed systems techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience in scientific data management, workflows, and resource management problems.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a collaborative attitude.

Job Description:
As a postdoctoral researcher at ORNL, you will:

  • Design and implement system software for AI-readiness of scientific data.
  • Collaborate on solutions to automate and optimize interactions between large simulations, data ingestion, and AI processes.
  • Develop agentic AI systems to enhance model quality and resource optimization.
  • Investigate performance and resilience strategies across heterogeneous computational resources.
  • Validate algorithms at scale using ORNL’s computational resources, including the Frontier supercomputer.
  • Communicate experimental results with domain experts and publish findings in peer-reviewed venues.
