Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Ghent University, Belgium

Postdoctoral Research Associate: Ghent University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join its Center for Molecular Modeling (CMM) within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. The successful candidate will engage in groundbreaking research in molecular modeling, particularly focusing on nanoporous materials with applications in catalysis and adsorption.

Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Research Area:
Nanoporous Materials and Catalysis

Location:
Ghent University, Belgium

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A completed thesis-based doctorate (PhD) in relevant fields.
  • Proven experience in molecular modeling of nanoporous materials under operational conditions.
  • In-depth knowledge of reaction networks in catalytic processes, particularly those involving CO2 or methanol conversion to hydrocarbons.
  • Expertise in ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of chemical reactions.
  • Excellent research and scientific writing skills.
  • Proficient in quantum mechanical software packages (e.g., VASP, CP2K), machine learning potentials (e.g., SchNet, NequIP, MACE), and coding (Python, C, etc.) is advantageous.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills in English.

Job Description:
The CMM is looking for a researcher to model bifunctional catalysts capable of converting non-fossil feedstocks, such as CO2 and methanol, into hydrocarbons. Responsibilities include:

  • Modeling reaction, diffusion, and adsorption processes from the nano- to the mesoscale.
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of the catalyst’s dynamic evolution.
  • Selecting model systems based on complex reaction networks involved in the CO2-to-hydrocarbons process.
  • Engaging in collaborative work with national and international academic partners.

How to Apply:
Interested candidates should apply online through the e-recruitment system. Applications must include:

  • CV and an overview of study results (merged into one pdf file)
  • Application letter in PDF format
  • Transcript of the required degree (if already in your possession)

Note: Applications submitted via email will not be accepted.

Last Date for Application:
15th October 2025 (23:59 Brussels Time)
