Postdoctoral Research Associate at Queen Mary University of London: The Earth Surface Science group at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Arctic soil microbial ecology. This position is part of the NERC and NSF-funded project ‘Sensors Under Snow: Seasonal Processes in the Evolution of Arctic Soils (SUN SPEARS).’ The successful candidate will analyze genomic data, integrate biological findings with soil geochemical and physical properties, and investigate seasonally-varying processes affecting pioneer soil development in the Arctic. This is a 16-month fixed-term position, with the possibility of extension subject to available funds and the date of appointment.
Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Research Area: Relevant natural science discipline (e.g., microbiology)
Location: Mile End, Queen Mary University of London
Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in a relevant natural science discipline (e.g., microbiology)
- Background in microbial ecology, preferably soil microbial ecology
- Experience in bioinformatics and analyzing metagenomic and/or metatranscriptomic data
- Skills in statistical analyses of multivariate, compositional microbiome data
- Track record of research productivity
Job Description: The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work within a multidisciplinary team of microbial ecologists, biogeochemists, modellers, and geophysicists. The primary tasks include analyzing genomic data to explore the characteristics of Arctic soil microbial communities, integrating biological findings with soil geochemical and physical properties, analyzing datasets to reveal seasonally-varying processes in pioneer soil development, and preparing research results for publication in peer-reviewed academic journals. The successful candidate will have access to a wealth of data already generated by the project and will lead the analyses of some of these datasets.
