Eligibility/Qualification

  • Essential:
  • PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • Research experience in:
    • Laser processing or additive manufacturing
    • Metal matrix composites
    • Coatings or surface engineering
    • Automation, sensing, or process control
    • Digital twin
    • Computational modelling or simulation (CFD, Abaqus and/or COMSOL)
  • Strong experimental skills and laboratory proficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience working with industry partners or on industry-focused research.
  • Knowledge of advanced characterisation techniques (SEM, EDX, XRD, tribology).
  • Experience with data-driven monitoring approaches (e.g., machine learning, real-time sensing).

Job Description

Join a dynamic research team focused on advancing metal matrix composite coatings for extreme industrial applications. The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct research into laser cladding processes, including parameter optimisation and advanced monitoring techniques.
  • Develop and refine process models, simulations, and automation strategies.
  • Characterise microstructure, wear behaviour, and corrosion resistance of MMC coatings.
  • Identify bottlenecks and propose engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to prototype development and performance validation.
  • Publish results in high-impact journals and present at leading conferences.
  • Collaborate with industry partners for the practical translation of research outcomes.
