Postdoctoral Research Associate – DERISK: The Department of Political Economy at King’s College London is seeking two full-time Postdoctoral Research Associates to work on the DERISK project led by Steven Klein. The project, funded by a UKRI Frontier Research Grant, investigates the intersection of systemic risk and democracy. The successful candidates will contribute to developing a new theory of risk democracy and conduct research on the challenges posed by systemic risks to democratic governance.

  • PhD awarded or near completion in Political Science, Philosophy, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated capacity for producing excellent research publishable in leading academic journals and presses.
  • Solid expertise in normative political theory.
  • Good grasp of relevant academic literature (e.g., risk studies, democratic theory) is desirable.
  • Experience with publishing academic and public-facing articles is desirable.

Job Description: The successful candidates will produce original research on systemic risk and democracy, provide policy analysis on the impact of systemic risk on democracy, co-author research outputs, manage research assistants, organize events to disseminate findings, and present research outputs. The post is a full-time position offered on a fixed-term contract from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027.

Note: Candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In such cases, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the PhD award, the job title will become Research Associate with an increase in salary to Grade 6.
