Summary
The School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS) at King’s College London is recruiting a highly motivated Research Associate to join Dr. Olena Rudyk’s research group. The post holder will investigate how oxidant signalling and metabolic processes regulate vascular changes in health and cardiovascular diseases such as pulmonary hypertension. The position is funded by the British Heart Foundation for 16 months in the first instance.

Eligibility & Qualification
Essential Criteria
- Education: Hold or be near completion of a PhD in cardiovascular science, biochemistry, molecular biology, or biomedical sciences.
- Laboratory Skills: Proven expertise working with primary cells and performing molecular biology protocols (e.g., DNA/plasmid isolation, site-directed mutagenesis, transfection, kinase activity assays, PCR, cell culture, cell fractionation, immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, cell proliferation assays).
- Research Rigor: Strong understanding of study design, power calculations, statistical analysis, and scientific integrity.
- Domain Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of vascular function, redox, and/or metabolic processes (in vitro or in vivo).
- Work Ethic & Teamwork: Highly motivated, self-driven, able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a research team.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage research and administrative duties efficiently to meet deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience analyzing omics datasets (e.g., RNA-seq, proteomics, metabolomics).
- Possession of a UK Home Office Personal Licence and experience with rodent models of disease.
- Track record of contributing to scientific publications and conference presentations.
- Experience managing discrete research project areas independently.
- Experience supervising undergraduate research students.
Job Description
- Conduct experimental research investigating oxidant signalling mechanisms that regulate growth-related kinases in vascular tissue under physiological and disease conditions (e.g., pulmonary hypertension).
- Utilize a range of approaches tailored to candidate expertise, including molecular biology, fluorescence imaging, redox biochemistry, proteomics, RNA-Seq, or in vivo physiological models (e.g., chronic hypoxia, vascular myography, echocardiography, telemetry).
- Maintain accurate research records, write reports, and publish findings in leading peer-reviewed journals.
- Manage day-to-day experimental workflows and administrative tasks within the lab.
- Participate in professional development (eligible for at least 10 days per year under the Concordat for Research Staff Development).
